Your Pet's First Visit

A pet's first visit to the vet can seem a bit daunting, so we've put together a list of info and resources to help you prepare. 

At your first appointment, we will gather information about your pet’s background, health, diet, and training. We can also address any questions or concerns you might have.

Your veterinarian will examine your pet from nose-to-tail, looking for things like heart murmurs, ear infections, and/or parasites. Your vet can also provide pet-proofing tips, training assistance, and parasite protection recommendations. 

Before Your First Appointment
  1. Complete the New Client Form prior to your first visit.
  2. Assemble and be sure to bring all the proper items with you:
    • Your pet's adoption or purchase records
    • Any existing medical history
    • A list of current medications and supplements
    • Current feeding schedule and the brand of food you use
    • A list of questions you have for your veterinarian
  3. Collect any necessary stool or urine samples, if requested.
  4. If you're bringing in your dog, be sure he or she is accustomed to being on a short leash. If you're bringing a cat, be sure to have an appropriate carrier.
  5. Feel free to bring your pet's favorite treats to keep them happy and distracted!

Appointment Policies

​Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your pet's appointment for check-in. If you have not filled out all relevant patient forms yet, plan to arrive 10 minutes ahead of your appointment.

While we do our best to make sure all of our patients are seen on time, there will be times of occasional unexpected delay due to an emergency or because we are providing care for a patient that needs a little more time. Please accept our apologies should this occur, and understand that the same dedication and courtesy will be provided to your pet should they ever need it.

  • We love Dr. Honeycutt and the Lake Austin Blvd Animal Hospital team! I would highly recommend her for your next veterinary appointment. She is patient, thorough and super knowledgeable. We moved to south Austin the beginning of 2022. With that said, I wish there were another location closer to us but other than that I wouldn’t change a thing :)

  • Wonderful vet! I’m new to Texas and noticed my dog wasn’t feeling too hot, so after looking around online I found this location and was able to book an appointment the very next day. Everyone was so kind and made my dog’s comfort top priority. The building and decorations are adorable and I feel great knowing if anything happened to my dog that she is in safe hands.

  • My partner and I just moved to Austin so this was our first time going to LABAH. The staff were so welcoming to us and our cat! Dr. Honeycut was exceptional in providing information that we asked for regarding dental health and giving us ample time to ask questions. After a few days, they called to check up on Lunchbox to ensure he was doing fine after his vaccinations. Happy to have this be our new home vet!

  • We have been bringing our pets to LABAH for over 5 years. Dr. Honeycutt and Dr. McCarty always take the time to listen to our concerns and are always open to answers any questions we have. The each take a good amount of time to fully examine our pets. This past visit though was incredibly special, as I had my young daughter with me. Dr. Honeycutt took the time to engage with her, and explained everything she was doing to our cat in terms my daughter could understand. The whole experience reminded me why we continue to go to LABAH

  • Dr. Honeycutt is the best. She is warm, very attentive and has the utmost care and concern for our little furbabies! She really goes above and beyond to explain what is going on and you never feel rushed. The ladies and gent at the front always welcome you with a smile and the techs are compassionate and sweet with my baby.
