Dr. Ashley Mack is originally from Georgia and moved to Minnesota in 2011 to attend veterinary school, ultimately deciding to stay and make it home.
She now lives in Hugo, Minnesota, and enjoys experiencing all four seasons—especially Minnesota’s beautiful, snowy Christmases. Dr. Mack has been part of the veterinary field for nearly 19 years, beginning her career as a volunteer at a small clinic in her college town. She later worked her way up from kennel staff to veterinary technician before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. This hands-on journey shaped her deep respect for every role within the veterinary team.
Dr. Mack is deeply passionate about urgent care medicine and thrives in fast-paced, high-acuity environments that require critical thinking, adaptability, and clear communication. She has extensive experience managing urgent, complex, and hospitalized cases, often involving advanced diagnostics, ongoing monitoring, and coordinated care. While her surgical interests include procedures such as laceration repairs, blocked cats, splenectomies, and enucleations, her clinical focus extends far beyond individual procedures to comprehensive case management, thoughtful medical decision-making, and compassionate owner support during stressful and emotionally charged situations.
Beyond clinical medicine, Dr. Mack is strongly committed to leadership and advocacy. During veterinary school, she dedicated a significant portion of her time to lobbying and activism, representing the veterinary community while also advocating for underprivileged populations, struggling families, and single mothers pursuing higher education. These experiences continue to influence her leadership philosophy and her commitment to building inclusive, supportive environments for both clients and veterinary professionals.
She shares her home with two rescue dogs, Millie, a large mixed-breed, and Nanu, a three-legged Coton de Tulear, both adopted through The Bond Between. She also has two cats, brothers named Donald and Lucifer, whom she adopted during veterinary school after neutering them on a farm during a small-ruminant rotation.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Mack has a strong creative side and enjoys interior design, photography, event planning, traveling, and spending time outdoors. She is also a foodie who loves exploring new restaurants. A proud boy mom, she spends most of her free time with her four sons—Devin (17), Kai (4), Vinny (3), and Cameron (1). During the winter months, she can often be found in a hockey arena cheering on Devin and Kai.
As the Founding Lead DVM of Livewell Animal Urgent Care, Dr. Mack is excited to build something from the ground up. She looks forward to intentionally defining Livewell’s culture and medical standards, building a collaborative and supportive team, and creating an environment where people love coming to work each day while serving the community with exceptional, evidence-based care.
