Your Pet's First Visit

A pet's first visit to the vet can seem a bit daunting, so we've put together a list of info and resources to help you prepare.

At your first appointment, we will gather information about your pet’s background, health, diet, and training. We can also address any questions or concerns you might have.

Your veterinarian will examine your pet from nose-to-tail, looking for things like heart murmurs, ear infections, and/or parasites. Your vet can also provide pet-proofing tips, training assistance, and parasite protection recommendations.

Before Your First Appointment
  1. Complete the New Client Form prior to your first visit.
  2. Assemble and be sure to bring all the proper items with you:
    • Your pet's adoption or purchase records
    • Any existing medical history
    • A list of current medications and supplements
    • Current feeding schedule and the brand of food you use
    • A list of questions you have for your veterinarian
  3. Collect any necessary stool or urine samples, if requested.
  4. If you're bringing in your dog, be sure he or she is accustomed to being on a short leash. If you're bringing a cat, be sure to have an appropriate carrier.
  5. Feel free to bring your pet's favorite treats to keep them happy and distracted!

Appointment Policies

Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your pet's appointment for check-in. If you have not filled out all relevant patient forms yet, plan to arrive 10 minutes ahead of your appointment.

While we do our best to make sure all of our patients are seen on time, there will be times of occasional unexpected delay due to an emergency or because we are providing care for a patient that needs a little more time. Please accept our apologies should this occur, and understand that the same dedication and courtesy will be provided to your pet should they ever need it.

  • Best Vet & Friendliest Staff!! My first two dogs hated vet visits (as most do). When we started coming to Matt they instantly had a different reaction and were much calmer. Around the worst time for a dog owner, when I had to put them both down, Matt & his staff were so heartfelt, empathetic, and helpful in each and every way. My new little ones still come here and they are just as excited to come to the vet as the old ones! Tails are always wagging and the staff greets them by name every-time! They love my fur babies as much as I do. Highly Recommend!!

  • I have a new 2 month old puppy and I was concerned about his cough! I wanted him checked right away. They were extremely kind. Got us in, less than an hour. Greeted us at the door. The staff were all amazing and the Vet was caring and personable. The price for the exam and 2 medications was very reasonable. I highly recommend and we will definitely be taking our sweet boy Bruce Wayne back!! Thanks so much for outstanding customer care!!

  • Livewall Animal Hospital in Anchorage is fantastic! Dr. Thompson and the staff are incredibly kind and informative. The location is super convenient, and they scheduled my 8-week-old Shiba Inu puppy’s first visit quickly. The facility is very clean, with spacious rooms and a fun, colorful logo on the ceiling at the entrance. They provided a thorough evaluation with great recommendations to keep my pup healthy. Plus, the first visit was free! Highly recommend – FIVE STARS!

  • I was referred by a friend to have Doctor Thompson look at my dog. I feel like Banks, my dog, actually gets the care he needs with Doctor Thompson. He has been more energetic and walking better after his appointments with Doctor Thompson. They even called to check on Banks after he got his medication. They have my full trust and I like the attention they give is helping my dog live a happier life.

  • I cannot recommend Dr. Thompson and his staff enough. He explains things very clearly and never makes me feel rushed when I have questions. The office staff is very professional both in office and over the phone. You can tell that they truly love what they do. We lost our fur baby recently and the level of compassion and kindness we were shown in the office is something we will never forget. They took the time to explain the next steps and made it easy for us to grieve while they handled the difficult part. If you are looking for a new office don’t hesitate to visit them. You will be in great hands.

  • All of their staff go above and beyond, they’re super friendly and show genuine compassion for our furry ones. Not to mention they do an excellent job at diagnosing and treating as well; Dr. Thompson is hands down one of the nicest people I’ve met while still remaining very professional and knowledgeable. They have done an amazing job with all of our pets from our kitten to our GSD. Overall, I would highly recommend them!

  • I recently transitioned my pets' care to LiveWell and am extremely pleased with that decision. The staff is not only friendly but also genuinely cares for the well-being of each pet as if they were their own. They focus on necessary treatments and do not push for unnecessary exams or procedures. After one of my pets developed an infection following a spay procedure, another veterinary service recommended a costly abdominal exploratory surgery. I sought a second opinion from Dr. Thompson at LiveWell, who prescribed a course of antibiotics. I am happy to report that my pet is now doing very well. I highly recommend LiveWell for their professionalism and ethical approach to pet care.
